The short version

  • Customer: BestPerfume.Store, a fragrance retailer serving customers across Singapore.
  • Platform: a Shopify store using Local Delivery + Pickup Date:S.
  • The problem: several delivery routes a day, planned by hand, with uncertain delivery times and driver schedules to manage on top.
  • What they set up: route planning for several drivers at once, shipment allocation across drivers, and the ScrollEngine driver app.
  • Results, as published: 40% Faster Dispatch; 25% More On-Time Deliveries.

The challenge: too many last-mile routes to plan by hand

BestPerfume.Store delivers to a wide range of customers throughout Singapore and runs several delivery routes every day. Before ScrollEngine, its logistics team spent too much time and effort on three jobs:

  • Planning routes: deciding which orders went on which route, and in what order.
  • Guessing arrival times: delivery times were uncertain, so customers and staff were left waiting.
  • Juggling drivers: driver schedules had to be managed alongside the routes themselves.

The team wanted a way to plan routes and hand them to drivers quickly, so it could spend its time on the store instead of on logistics.

What BestPerfume.Store set up

BestPerfume.Store installed Local Delivery + Pickup Date:S on its Shopify store, so its local delivery orders reach ScrollEngine without re-keying. ScrollEngine's route creation was the starting point; working with the store's team, we extended it so that several routes could be planned at once. Three parts now carry the daily operation.

1. Route planning for several drivers at once

The team selects the day's orders and the drivers on shift, and route optimization builds a route for each driver in one pass. Routes are planned around delivery windows, driver shifts, traffic and vehicle capacity, and the planner previews each route's distance and time before anyone leaves. If the day changes, a route can still be edited after it starts.

The planner is built for a store's logistics team rather than routing specialists, so staff use it without extensive training.

2. Shipments shared out across drivers

Instead of assigning each shipment by hand, the team lets the optimizer split the day's shipments across the available drivers, taking each delivery's location and time window and each vehicle's capacity into account. That removes a manual step where mistakes crept in, and shipments go out faster. The team then follows each shipment's status from assigned to delivered and adjusts only when something changes.

3. A driver app for every route

Drivers run their routes from the ScrollEngine driver app on iOS or Android. Each driver sees the scheduled routes, the stops to pick up and the route on a map, navigates to each stop, confirms each delivery in the app, and can call or message the customer if something goes wrong. We redesigned the app's screens during the project so that both drivers and the logistics team find their way around easily.

In the office, the operations dashboard shows how the day's orders and shipments are moving, which helps the team plan the next day.

Results

As published by ScrollEngine, BestPerfume.Store's results with ScrollEngine are:

  • 40% Faster Dispatch
  • 25% More On-Time Deliveries

Day to day, the change shows up in three places:

  • Daily routes are handled with ease. Route planning takes significantly less time and effort, because the routes for every driver are built together.
  • Routes reach drivers without confusion. Each driver gets a planned route in the app, which cuts delays and back-and-forth at dispatch.
  • Everyone works from the same picture. Drivers and the logistics team see the same routes and statuses, which makes the operation smoother and more transparent.

BestPerfume.Store's own verdict, published on ScrollEngine's home page, is quoted below the story.

Set up the same workflow on your store

  1. Install Local Delivery + Pickup Date:S from the Shopify App Store and connect your store; local delivery orders sync automatically.
  2. Add your drivers and ask them to install the driver app on their phones.
  3. Select a day's orders, choose several drivers, set their shifts and limits, and run optimization. The steps are in Optimize routes for multiple drivers.
  4. Review each driver's route on the map and save it; the routes appear in the drivers' apps.

Every option, from delivery windows to vehicle capacity, is on the delivery route planner for Shopify page.

Questions, answered.

How do you plan delivery routes for several drivers at once?

Select the day's orders, choose the drivers on shift and run route optimization. ScrollEngine splits the stops across the drivers and puts each route in order, taking delivery windows, shifts, breaks and vehicle capacity into account. You review each route on the map before saving, and the routes appear in the drivers' apps.

Can a Shopify store run local delivery with its own drivers?

Yes. With ScrollEngine's Shopify app, a store's local delivery orders sync from Shopify into ScrollEngine, where the team builds routes and assigns them to its own drivers. Drivers work from the iOS and Android driver app and confirm each delivery there.

Does ScrollEngine work for stores outside the United States?

Yes. BestPerfume.Store delivers across Singapore, and other merchants in our customer stories deliver in India and the United States. Each location keeps its own time zone, and the dashboard is available in several languages, with some newer analytics screens in English.
