Optimize routes for multiple drivers
To split a day's deliveries across drivers, select the orders, choose several drivers, set shifts and limits, run optimization, then review each driver's route before you save.
Steps
Step 1: Select the day's orders
Go to Routes, create a route for the delivery date and select every order you want delivered that day.
Step 2: Choose several drivers
Add each driver who is working. Route optimization splits the orders between them and gives each driver their own route.
Step 3: Set shifts and limits
Set each driver's shift window and breaks, the longest a route may run and the time spent at each stop. If your vehicles have limits, set capacity by weight, items or number of stops.
Step 4: Keep stops inside their time windows
Use time windows so each stop is planned inside the customer's delivery slot. The optimizer then orders stops to meet those windows as well as to cut drive time.
Step 5: Run optimization
Run route optimization. It assigns orders to drivers and orders each route to reduce total drive time while keeping to your shifts, limits and time windows.
Step 6: Review each route, then save
Check each driver's stops, distance and time. Move stops by hand if you need to, then save. Each driver sees their route in the driver app.

Before you start
Invite the drivers you'll plan for and check the orders' addresses are placed correctly on the map: see Create your first route.
Rebalance several routes on one map
To move stops between routes after you save, select more than one route and open them together in the multi-route editor Early access in the ScrollEngine web dashboard.
Early access. Availability can depend on your plan or account. Behavior may change.
Vehicles
Vehicle types, dimensions and payloads are managed in the ScrollEngine web dashboard, which you open from the app. Routes can then respect each vehicle's capacity.

Troubleshooting
If it doesn't work.
The limits were too tight for the orders. Widen a shift, raise the longest route time or vehicle capacity, add a driver, or check for stops whose time window can't be reached, then run optimization again.
Set a maximum route duration or stop count so the work spreads more evenly, then optimize again.
Advanced route constraints depend on your plan. Check your plan in the app's billing settings, or ask us in the in-app chat.
No. It is mathematical optimization over drive times, distances and the limits you set. You can see and change every route before it goes out.
